January 11, 2011

Kube Publishing (UK) is pleased to announce that a new book and CD for children by Dawud Wharnsby entitled “A Picnic of Poems” is scheduled for release this coming spring. The collection of 30 new poems and songs is reminiscent of Dawud’s earlier recordings “A Whisper of Peace” and “Sing Children of The World” both lyrically and musically, yet it reflects a refined maturing of Dawud as a writer, singer and educator.

Out Seeing The Fields ~ Now Remixed & Remastered!

February 15, 2011

The 2007 album "Out Seeing The Fields" by Dawud Wharnsby (featuring Idris Phillips) has now been recently remastered and is available both here and on iTunes!

Dawud says, "These times of rapidly changing technology and digital distribution are quite exciting for independent artists.   Out Seeing The Fields was a very personal album for Idris and I.  We wanted to revisit the mixes with the newest studio technology available, to brighten the album's overall sound and really bring out certain aspects of its arrangements."

Also in the pipeline for 2011 is an alternative "World Rhythm" version of the CD utilizing only vocals and percussion, featuring bonus tracks and guest vocals by South African singer Zain Bhikha.

Baby News!

Safiya is an Arabic name meaning "sincere friend". In Swahili the name means "pure” or “pure of heart". It is also Greek (Sofia) for "wisdom".

The Wharnsby's will spend the next few weeks with family in Colorado USA and in Ontario Canada before little Safiya makes her first trip overseas to the family's primary home in Pakistan.

Another child enters the world ~ to help make it a better place for all!

Dawud & Idris ~ The Poet and The Pirate

December 12, 2010

Red-Beard and White-Beard were back in studio together again last week for some unique recording sessions in Nashville, Tennessee.

Though both artists have solo and collaborative music albums scheduled for release in 2011, their recent Nashville recordings were an experiment in blending un-released (and in some cases improvisational) jazz compositions by Phillips, with Wharnsby's spoken poetry.

According to Dawud, "The album sort of came about by accident late one night when Idris started playing me recordings of his instrumental compositions and improv jazz sessions.  I began reading some of my poetry overtop and he pointed me toward the microphone.   By 4 am we had several tracks recorded."

Watch for more information on the project's release coming soon!
